weight and prednisone

can prednisone help build mucsle because i have been takeing it for anout a week and i seem to be gain weight. i need help

I don't know if it necessarily causes weight gain, but it certainly does make you eat much more than you normally would. When I was on it for my asthma, it had such a huge affect on my appetite! So, indirectly, I ended up gaining a lot of weight because of the effects of the prednisone on my eating habits. Also, I believe it causes water retention which can also lead to increased weight.
