I would like to hear something about that relatively new medication used in treatment of seizures that is called trileptal. I have also heard that trileptal is very good antidepressant. My mother was on antidepressants for 5 years and than discontinued. I would like to hear what is the innovation that is brought in therapy with trileptal? Is it more effective antidepressant than maois and tcas are?

I guess that you’ll be surprised to hear that trileptal is not exactly new medication. It is very similar chemically to carbamazepine. There is very small difference between these two medications. The benefit of trileptal is that does not decrease level of white blood cells, as carbamazepine does. So, indications, effects and the adverse effects are pretty same for both trileptal and tegretol. It works as mood stabilizer and drug for bipolar disorders.
