synthyroid and weight gain

I've been on synthyroid for a little over 2 months. I noticed a weight gain, but after being told synthyroid would boost my metabolism, I was confused by the cause of my weight gain. Now, however, I have heard, the synthyroid could possibly be the cause. Is it possible?
