strep virus, nauseau

My son is 7 years old and diagnosed with strep virus almost three months ago. Has been nauseaus since then. Recent strep test have come up negative, but his symptoms continue.
Could he still have strep? What antibiotic would be best on his tummy, he is 53 pounds. How long should he be on it to rid him of strep?
