side affects of birth control pills

I was on Ortho-Tri Cyclen lo for about 2 years, then got off of them for about a month and i just recently got back on them. I am on my first pack of pills, about half way through, and my nipples are very sore. They got this way when i got off the pill for a while too. Is this a side affect of getting back on them or could i be pregnant?
