sever leg pain, chills and flu like symptoms

Please help! My husband has suffered from kidney stones for 25 years and has been having sever symptoms latley that I question to be stones. He will have sever leg cramps that keep him up all night as well as hurt all day, he seems to take advile religiously! He also will have chills and then sometimes break out with a sweat after the chills stop, as well as pain in his right side that he says feels like when he has a stone moving from his kidney down the tube it would travel. The only difference is there is no blood in his urine like there always is before when a stone is moving and of cource "no" stone comes out. I have told him he needs to have blood work and a physical done to be on the safe side but he wont! I honestly feel like it is something else espicially since he has this sever leg cramping. I could use some advise! Has this happend to anyone else?
