painful fingertips

I am a 32 y/o female who has recently noticed painful somewhat swollen finger tips. At first I thought it was because of biting my nails or cuticles....because I get nervous about exams and term papers but its been almost four days since I noticed this feeling on my fingers. I don't know what it is and it's hurting and making me feel inadequate. Help please!

I suggest seeing a doctor. I have the same problem but it is widespread - from chest to feet. My endocrinologist (sp?) suspects nerve endings and had requested blood tests to look at the calcium and b-12 content of my body. This started after a very stressful period in my life. I am 36 y/o female..
