Cholesterol is not soluble in water and it forms solid structures in gallbladder. This happens when concentration of cholesterol is elevated, but not necessary. Cholesterol is excreted from the liver and reabsorbed again from the intestines. Cholesterol can crystallize and is ingredient of gallstones. It is not the rule that elevated cholesterol causes gallstones, but it definitely causes atheroma plaques in blood vessels. Natural and healthy way to decrease cholesterol level is using omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, lecithin, policosanols or herbal products that contain artichoke extract.
