myelomalacia cervical

My friend has been diagnosed with cervical myelophaty from his cervical spondylosis and resultant stenosis. He has all signs of myelophaty: Hoffman’s sign, muscle weakness, spastic gait. He recently did cervical MRI and spinal cord was seen as myelomalacia. I wonder what possible treatment for his condition is.

Physical therapy is not because it could worsen the damage to the spinal cord seen as myelomacia on MRI. Also epidural corticosteroid injection will be inappropriate because of the reduced space in the spinal canal from the compression. As cervical MRI has shown spinal cord compression the only treatment is surgical decompression. After surgery physical therapy is recommended for several months.
