mucus in the throat

i just got over a cold and now am dealing with a mucus in my throat. it gives me the sensation as if I am choking and I can't seem to cough it up.

I used to have somewhat of a similiar problem of excessive mucus in my throat. I went to the doctor and it turned out to be caused by heartburn. My doctor said that the body produces mucus to help with settling your heartburn. May not be so in your case but that was the problem mine.
