I have had lymphodemia since I was 9years old. The doctors said if I gain too much weight my legs will get bigger than they usually are. please send any advice to help my leggs and feet to stop swelling so that i can at least wear shoes.

i have had primary lymphodemia since i was a child. im now 35 and it has affected all 4 limbs. weight isnt to much of an issue but i would recommend you get support bandages from your gp . although these dont look that good (on me anyway) they have helped to contain the swelling. If left without support it can get worse mine did had 6 infections over a year so please wear bandages

I've had lymphodemia in both my lower legs and feet for nearly 5 years now, and i also get badly swollen ankles. From my experience and what i have been told by the specialist at the hospital, weight is a minor but important factor, the more you weigh the worse it can get, i've lost nearly 2 stone and my lymphodemia has gone down alot, and even if weight is not a factor movement in general helps improve it, i regularly use a bike as that keeps my legs moving and keep it in check.

Another way to help is, as said above, wearing pressure stockings/support bandages, get measured at your hospital for some, they are a miracle especially in summer months as my legs get worse then.

Two final things that help me also are keeping my legs elevated, sitting down in a chair (e.g at the computer) for too long makes my ankles swell up alot, so do that, and also be careful of cuts/blisters etc... as lymphodemia makes you more susceptible to infections.

I hope that helps... and one last thing, although the specialist isn't sure whether it's a contributing factor to keeping my lymphodemia in check but i started drinking alot more water not long after i was diagnosed and i saw some improvement, though this could also be due to other things i did, but just a thought to keep in mind.

Hope that helps

My Mom has lymphedemia and I am looking for some help for her. She has it really bad in her legs and left arm. It is now happening in her stomach and in her left side of her chest. Her Dr. doesn't give her any help or suggestions. He is a great Dr. but just doesn't know too much about this or where to send my Mom.
It is REALLY bad right now. She can't wear any shoes and she has blisters on her legs. We have searched high and low for shoes for her for a couple of years now. Does anyone here have any suggestions. We live in Michigan (suburbs near Detroit).

my mum has lymphodemia, shes had it for about 10years now but recently it has got really bad shes going away for 6 weeks to get her legs bandaged which will really help, but that in a few months and shes in a lot of pain as its got so much worse. Her lynoph nodes are so swollen and her legs have nearly doubled. Does anyone know what she can do at home to try to reduce the swelling, she won't wear the stockings cause its too painful at the moment so anything that relieves it. Please let me know.

Also who thinks its ridiculous that there is practicaly no help anywhere for this condition even her doctor doesn't really have a clue about the condition shes been trying to find a speciallist and is finding it very hard to find anyone who can help. She is going to a specialist hospital but its in the black forest so shes having to go out of the country to get any help!!!
