I'm 25 and I've had two depo shots now... I've never been model-skinny, but not fat either - just curvy. Within 5 months I've picked up almost 10kg! From my teens until when I got the first shot, I always weighed 64kg, that never went up or down... now I suddenly weigh 74kg! I've even started exercising. But to my dismay - I only pick up more weight! My next shot is due in a month, I'm not gonna have it. After reading peoples posts about this drug, I can't believe all the things the nurses failed to mention. I'm just hoping the weight comes off again, and that I won't have such bad symptoms coming off as I haven't been on it that long. I'd rather have painful periods than all this nonsense.

I've been taking the shot for 6 month and i gained thirty lbs. I'm only 17 and it's really really difficult. I used to be 168 which was not skinny but now i am 196. I feel horrible and ugly. I can't wait to start losing the lbs quick. I hope if happens soon.

I got my first depo shot in March of 08........I was weighing between 132-135..............I took my last shot in June of 08. I have been off the shot since my last scheduled shot in 9/08. I CANNOT LOSE A POUND. Just like all of the other posters. I am 30 and I now weigh 145-150 I am an avid gym goer. I am in the gym 5 days a week, for atleast an hour at a time, I have even tried fat burners such as lipo 6, hydroxycut max and nothing is seeming to help me lose a pound. I am going mad..........any advice? Crying or Very sad [/b]

I've been on depo since I was 16 because I had a mild case or endometriosis. I was 135 when I started and 3 years later I am now 188. I have been working out like crazy for the last 3 months and I haven't lost a pound. Im still on Depo and Have been debating if I want to get off the shot, but I love the benefit of not having the period, and not having as suvere a pain from the endometriosis. Its a hard decision. My doctor had me start taking calcium pills when I started the shot. I really don't want to do, but I would really like to lose some of this weight. I don't like it. I'm still stuck weighing the pros and cons. Crying or Very sad

Hi, i have been on the depo for a year now, i used to weigh 100-105 pounds, i now weigh 140 from this stupid shot!! I am due to take it in a couple days again, but after reading all of this, I am DEFINITELY not getting again, I hate the weight I have gained so much, and I hope it comes off fast. I don't feel attractive anymore, and my husband rarely wants to even do anything sexual with me anymore because of the weight i've gained. It's been really hard on me, and i just want to lose this weight. I also am wanting to try and have a baby, i've heard it could take up to three years after going off the shot, is that true? I really hope not!

I had my first depo shot in january 2006, I was 18 at the time and only weighed 90lbs. I was always a very skinny person, no matter how much i ate i would never gain a single pound. The first thing i noticed when i got on the shot was a bloated stomach. THis is what bothers me the most. I didn't mind the weight gain at first because i was underweight. I had my last shot in november of 2008 and was scheduled to come in for my next appointment feb 19, 2009. I decided to get off the shot now because I currently weigh 116lbs and the bloated stomach has not gone down. I was always reluctant to get off it because i didn't mind not having my periods. I changed my eating habits, started to exercise, but i still was gaining weight. hopefully, now I can lose the weight i gained from the depo. I will never use it again.

I had my first shot on (I'll never forget the date because it was the day that changed my body for worse forever) October 01, 2004. On that day, I weighed in at 130 lbs. (I'm 5'7") a perfect weight for me. The gain wasn't noticeable at first THEN by mid-November of 04' my once size 5-7 pants was noticeably snug. I had a flat, muscular tummy, etc. everything that goes along with a fit body, a by-product of exercise and eating right.
What the f--- happened?? I did the research on depo-provera and read about the 3-5 lb. weight gain. No problem, I thought, but was sadly misled. My male, semi-retired gynocologist didn't say much other than what I read. Needless to say, I did not go for the 2nd shot because by that time I had gained over 20 lbs!! I'ts now over 30 lbs. Again, what the f---!! I, too, like another person posted, thought I could exercise it away, to no avail. I gained more weight and am still bloated most days. My period is regular after 3 years from just 1 shot, but the side effects from my period are unlike anything I've experienced. Absolutely depressing!! I've changed gynocologist since and she stated to me she would not have even suggested depo-provera, especially at my age, 41, at the time of my shot. I will and can never recommend depo-provera to any woman at any age. Very disappointing!!And now I have to live with my decision for the rest of my life.
