My husband has bleeding/bloating/pain associated with his colon. He has undergone medical testing that has shown polyps and some constriction. What foods should be restricted and what foods should be increased? We have limited spices and fried food and increased salads and fruit. However, the problem remains.

Are the polyps those that are causing the constriction of the colon? What did the doctor suggest? What about a removal?

Dietary changes are advised but the trials performed on foods influence on the polyp prevention did not show many benefits. This may be due to the fact that the longest trial lasted for only four years and that it takes longer to see the difference.

In my point of you, it would be best to remove the polyps and have them biopsed. After the removal, you should definitely put him on (you too could benefit from it) low-fat, high fiber diet. Of course, it matters also what his doctor says.

A change in eating style is a long-term benefit and the results can’t be seen at once. Besides high fiber and low fat, make sure he gets enough calcium and folate and that he doesn’t smoke nor drink.
