My wife has been in hospital few days ago. She was not feeling well last couple of days. When she was admitted to a hospital the doctor said that she has increased sugar in blood. He has diagnosed diabetes. Next day he told me that it have something to do with her endocrine system. Can you tell me something about it?

Diabetes mellitus can result from pancreatic disease when the majority of pancreatic islets (over the 80%) are destroyed. Several endocrinopathies can lead to diabetes as a result of excessive secretion of hormones that antagonize the action of insulin. Viral infections have been implicated in pancreatic islet destruction, but are an extremely rare cause of diabetes mellitus.
