Hi, it is normal to have black stool while you are taking iron preparations. Generally, changes in the color, consistency, and frequency of bowel movements are symptoms of many diseases. some sorts of food have ability to color the food. There are also othercauses of black colored stools, known also as melena, like acidified blood, blood from higher in the digestive tract, black licorice, large amounts of spinach or other greens, or blueberries.
