My father went to a doctor because of disturbing cough and chest pains. They say that he has chronic bronchitis. But also they were talking about something called COPD. I don't know is there any relations between this and the bronchitis. I am not even sure that I have heard it right. Is something like this exists and what is that?

Yes it exists and you have heard it right. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name of a group of chronic and slowly progressive respiratory disorders characterized by reduced maximal expiratory flow during forced exhalations. COPD comprises emphysema and chronic bronchitis, two distinct processes, although most often present in combinations.
