I am 16 years old boy and unfortunately, I am quite fat. I always wanted to lose weight and firm up, but now I have especially strong wish. That is why I started weight lifting and walking, but I have heard something that worries me. My neighbor says that weight lifting definitely does stunt teen’s growth. Now I want to hear could it be true and should I stop this action until I reach enough and full highness.
There are certain exercises that stunt your growth, which include bench presses, shoulder presses, leg presses and other exercises that oppose the bones in your body. Every one says that weight lifting stops your growth, so if I were you I would think before I start doing this. There is evidence that lifting heavy weight could speed up growth plate closure, which would express as bad effect of weight lifting on teens. That does not mean that you should not pump iron, you just want to avoid power lifting, competitive lifting and maximum lifts at least until you get little older. You should use relatively lightweights and do 2-3 sets of no more than 15 repetitions during one exercise. You should also try to limit your workouts to three, half-hour sessions per week, which is something I would recommend to you. It is important to learn the basics of weight training from a qualified instructor and get medical clearance from your doctor before you begin weight lifting. Learning the proper technique will help you avoid future injuries associated with weight training and some bad effects of weight lifting that usually affect teens. Your instructor can also give you pointers for getting the most out of your workout, which might also help.

Nah dude. i'm 18 and i've been lifting for about a year and a half. since then i've grown about 4 inches. squating will definetly make you shorter, but i highly recommend that you start lifting. You will feel a lot happier, and in about a month or two you'll notice a pretty big difference. plus at your school don't you see the football players llifting all the time, and they sure as hell havn't stunted their growth

I can most certainly say that this is NOT true. After much research, I have found that there is no scientific evidence to prove that weight training at a young age can stunt your growth. Mariusz Pudzianowski, who is the Worlds Strongest Man x5, started weight training when he was 13, and reached a height of 6 ft 1. There is only sceptic that weights stunt your growth, but there has been much research and no evidence is clear. I started weights when I was 13 and I am now fifteen and almost 5 ft 10, which is a good height for my age. Don't listen to your neighbour because I bet if you ask him for evidence he won't be able to give you any.
i started weight lifting at 13 n i was roughly 5 '11 now im 15 and 6'4 and have gained 25-30 kilos doing so with a low body fat percentage i believe that people said it stunted your growth just because they needed an excuse to not get off their ass and do it. work hard train harder
if you lift before you start growing you will not build muscle because your body has started producing enough androgens yet. Androgens usually start being produced with the onset of puberty, how that does not mean the body won't increase in strength because there can be neurogenic effects without androgens.

what are your stats dude <
i started lifting when i was 14/15? and i was 6'1 then now im 6'4 (17) and 213 lbs which is about 66lbs more than when i was 14 which is not too shabby and my body fat isnt high though i do need to cut up a bit for the summer
Well i haven't seen any harm in it yet and i'm 15 started about a year ago so when i started i was 14 and i'm pretty buffed now and can't see any side effects so far but it's best not to start at the age of 12, id say start about age 15-16 when your fully developed.
