aviane- missed a period, started aviane, now period is going

Hi- I am a new user of birth control. I have taken aviane for about a week and a half. I skipped a month of my normally regular period... started taking aviane, and i was taking the orange pills while i was on my period because thats what my doctor told me to do. Now my period is going on 9 days and it is usually 5 or 6. Is it the pill or just that i was a month late? is it really even in my system yet?
