Wives make more money than husbands

The researchers had noticed years ago that some women were earning more money than their husbands. They thought that the phenomenon was a seasonal and a temporary one. However, it turned out that the phenomenon was more permanent. It was found that about 60 % of the time, as many as 20 % of wives made more money than their husbands.

The data was taken from US Census Bureau gathered between 1996 and 2000. The couples examined were those who remained married throughout the three-year study and between 25 and 54 years old.
All social levels were taken into consideration; families with high-paying jobs as well as the poor ones. However, the researchers were more concerned about the lower group where both male and female were not earning much but where the women were still doing better.

In the end, researcher pointed out that women were not doing better because they were superstar women but because 25% of the men who earned less had health problems.
