Although we were never able to tell what miscarriage risks were, scientists have finally identifies one-being underweight.

A study done by the researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine showed that underweight pregnant women were more likely to miscarry than women of normal weight.

However, it was also determined that this risk could be reduced or tempered by proper behaviour and nutrition such as regular intake of healthy foods and vitamins.

The researchers gathered information by studying 603 women between the ages of 18 and 55 who miscarried during the first three months of pregnancy and comparing their data to the data of 6,000 women whose pregnancies exceeded the three-month period.

It was found that women who were underweight had 72 % bigger chances of miscarrying during the first three months than women with normal weight.

However, the risk was cut by large 50% in those women who regularly took vitamin supplements like iron, folic acid and multivitamins and who regularly consumed fruits and vegetables.
