i took anitbiotics for influenza and had unprotected sex three days later. I found out after the fact that antibiotics decrease the effectivness of the pill. How much do antibiotics effect the pill's effectiveness.

They can reduce the effectiveness quite a bit (I have a 14 yr old daughter who is proof how the two don't mix). It is best to not stop your pills unless you miss a period, and if you have sex again for a month after you stopped taking the antibiotics to use back up protection.

she is absolutely correct. when i was taking amoxacylin for a bad ear infection the doctor told my husband and i only to have protected sex with a condom, because the pill would be ineffective to fight pregnancy while taking the antibiotics. so wear a condom from now on and see if you get your period.
