I have searched the web sites and talked with my doctors until I'm blue in the face. Prior to having my entire thyroid removed and undergoing the radio iodine treatment, I was in bed by 10pm up at 5am, worked 8 hrs mon-fri, in the gym by 4:30 (weights1/2hr cardio 45 min) felt excited upbeat and thought life is good. One year after iodine treatment, I'm 60ilbs heavier, struggling to get the weight off. I'm usually in bed before 8:30(I fall asleep at the drop of a hat) I awake as late as 6:30(late for work many times)and I nap on my lunch hour. I do good to get to the gym 3 days a week and those days I do, I'm careful not to overexert myself or else I'll have a difficult time staying awake the following day. My muscle recovery is as long as 7 days, so I may only hit the weights on one body part per wk and not to exhaustion. I currently on 200mcg per day and I wake up each moring speaking to myself "life is good" I have thankful the cancer being caught in it's early stages and I'm happy for meds that can take the place of the thryoid but there simply has to be more research but synthetic replacement is not the cure all.

WoW, I feel the same way. I kept felling that I was loosing my mind. I have Graves Disease and had the radio iodine treatment in June. Now 3 months later and 35 lbs heavier, I feel horrible. I am tired all the time and have no energy. I feel like I am always complaing about my sore legs, my forgetfulness and my eyes. My eyes are the worst the tissue behimn my eyes is all swollen, which the Dr. said it will never correct itself. It feels as though I have Vaseline in my eyes all the time. I am so depressed with the way I feel. When I see my endocrinologist she says it is all part of the disease "you'll be fine" and see you in 2 months. I started with 50 mcg per day and now I am at 125. I feel a slight difference, but not for long. I am still falling asleep on the couch at 9:30 at night. Does it ever get better?

I went through this almost 20 yrs ago (Graves Disease and radioactive iodine treatment) and this is the info I have discovered via my endriconogist (spelling) at the time.
Hyperthyroidism attacks your muscles, so the muscle pain after going hypothyroid is your muscles healing. Another thing she told me was that I needed to be on anti-depressents.
The anti-depressents (low dosage) helped tremendously and the muscle pain went away until about 7 yrs ago.
I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and have to wonder if there is any correlation between it and thyroid disease.
Do any of you know?
Hang in there....I'm not saying it gets any better but after awhile you just sort of learn to live with this.
