My friends recently gave a birth to a baby girl. She doesn’t want to see her or hold her. He rejected her in every way. Her husband is confused and desperate. I don’t know how to help her. They told me in hospital hat she had condition called ‘Postnatal depression’. What does it mean and how common is this condition?

Postnatal depression is a depressive illness that occurs after having a baby in almost 15% of women. It is common for women following childbirth to experience a period of 'low' mood and this can range in severity from a mild and normal period of mood disturbance. The most severe and rarest problem is called postnatal psychosis. It usually develops within the first month following childbirth. I am sorry to hear this. I hope she‘ll be ok.
