I am 33 and have been experincing this for years. I have stopped going to the doctor because she thinks it is panic or something else. It is VERY scary because you do get anxious that it is something more serious. There is definately a warming sensation afterwards and sometimes the mild headache. It is so nice to read that others have the same issues. I am interested to hear any more suggestions as to what this might be and how to avoid it.

Hello everyone,
6 years ago I sustained a head trauma as a result of repeated kicks to the brain stem area. Along with the neck injury came a strange symptom. Due to (i'm going to guess) muscle spasms, I would pop in the left side of my neck as if when I moved it beyond a particular range of motion. It would immediately be followed by a burning pain (pretty debilitating) that would result in temporary numbing in the center of my tongue. It felt as though it was very heavy or the sensation that it was being pushed down. All told, would last about one minute and eventually slowed down in frequency. At the time, the neurologist (Yale affiliated, and supposed to be good) scratched his head with my report of these symptoms. My neck was not directly the issue at the time, they seem to focus more on brain trauma. Since then, I have developed a worsening (degenerative disc) condition in which a couple of discs are protruding into my spinal cord. My physicians believe that the spinal cord compression is playing a part in symptoms because the cranial nerve #12 affects the sensory/motor functioning of your tongue. I am still testing and pushing the issue. They really underestimated the power of the spinal cord as it applies to some more uncommon symptoms. I have also presented with chronic muscle twitches/shocks (myoclonus) that they thought were potentially seizure related. Wrong! Also, spinal cord related. Be proactive and get a consult for what could be a disc issue. Hope this helps. Wink

I am 30 yrs old and have been having this popping sensation in the back left side of my head since I was a little girl. It is a sharp pain/burning and at the same time my tongue feels really heavy in the back. It only last for maybe 30 seconds and happens while I am moving. I recently mentioned this to a doctor and he just blew it off like it was nothing to worry about. I now see that others also have these symptoms which confirms that I am not over-reacting...but does anyone know what this is? Should I be getting an MRI?

I didn't realize how odd of a condition it was. When i sometimes throw something really hard the back left side of my head will pop and its like a burning sensation and it doesn't last very long. it scares me because i dont want to turn a blind eye that could lead to something more severe

it doesn't happen that often, but enough to where i would like some answers, but no one seems to know anything.

Hmmm that is interesting as well, this happens to make, doesn't feel like liquid but i get a weird feeling sometimes when it happens to me. GF said this is located where my occipital bone is. It makes loud pops that could silence a room and other times barely notice it. 24 right now this has been happening since i was 16 i would say.

I'm 19 and have been having various popping sensations in my head.
Sometimes when I'm running or moving around, the right center of my head click/pops from the movement, I can both feel and hear it.
Just recently, I think I had a few pops in the front right of my head, but was not concerned as this popping thing has been going on for at least a couple years now.
Just tonight I was eating - totally calm, free of anxiety - and felt/heard popping on the left side of my head, more towards the OUTSIDE, like just under my skull or something. It popped continually for a minute like something was expanding or something.. I thought I was about to die and ran to the bathroom to beg for my life. Afterword my head felt odd, and like, pressurized. Normally there is nothing. just the popping. So this is new. I am still pretty terrified, but it is somewhat comforting to know that others have had the same thing and are still okay.

I have scoliosis, and have chronic muscle tension and occasional pain around my neck. Though when I last went to the doctor for it, I tried to tell them about the popping and got basically no reaction, just an extra Xray of my neck - no disc issues. I don't think they will generally pay much attention to a symptom when there is no pain involved..

So after finding mentions of aneurysms when searching google about it, this has at least helped me relax a little.
Wish a professional would come in and post their oppinion here.

My 4 year old daughter also suffers from this, she is attending the hosp but they haven't got a clue what it is. She has a popping feeling at the back of her head then starts screaming in pain for seconds but after that shes fine, its happening at least once a day some times it can happen about 5 times a day, its not just when shes running around like most 4 year olds it can happen when shes sitting watching tv but it has never happened in her sleep, it is really worring.

My daughter has been feeling this popping sensation for a while. There seems to be no pattern to it. We can go days without her mentioning it, have a run of them in one day or have one popping daily over a few days. It's only come up in the last 18 months.

She can feel the pop coming on and has described it as small lumps coming together and then blowing up. It's not always painful. If it is a very hard pop then its painful and sometimes she can feel confused. There is no liquid or cooling sensation after it and nothing happens to her tongue.

It can happen in any part of her head on both sides. Though I log the pops now, for future reference I'm going to log which side it happens on and if its painful.

It can happen when she's active or relaxing or just doing normal things. I'm worried but my daughter seems to just accept it as normal and doesn't let it stop her. I haven't been to the doctor with it yet as I didn't feel they would be very sympathetic about it.
