Birth control pills should start working one week, two tops after you began using them. The main reason pills are taken is to prevent pregnancy if a guy ejaculates inside a woman. Birth control pills prevent ovulation, but also implantation. However, they are never 100% safe.

There were cases when women got pregnant on birth control. It depends on if you took them regularly and at the same time.

If your period is late and you are on the pill, you better get tested. There is no point testing if you are not late yet.
