"Also all of the weight that I have gained is in my lower abdomen and looks like i'm bloated all the time. Also I now get one or two zits a month that I never got and I feel like my face is oily. Any suggestions on the weight or anything?" |
That is exactly the same thing I have experienced. I have had my Mirena for about 2yrs now & my weight has stayed constant. When I first got it, I was a stay at home mom. Now, I work at a health club, eat WAY healthier, eat less, & exercise at least 3 times a week....nothing! My weight will fluctuate 2-3 pounds, but that's it!
I'm just hoping we can start on our second child soon, so he can get fixed~lol!
I had my Mirena removed for the same reason - despite being on WW and very active I could not shed a single pound - I've been stuck at 140lb for over 10 weeks!!! Yes - i am post partum but I know this is not normal - I had bloodwork done, stopped nursing and STILL was not able to shift the weight no matter what I did.
I've only had the Mirena out for 1 week so I don't know how long it will take to lose again - but I'm hoping that when I finally stop bleeding (post removal) and my body settles back down I can start exercising and dieting and will start seeing results. It's extremely discouraging to bust your butt trying to get fit only to stay the same weight no matter what...
I'll come back in a month or so and let you know how things are progressing...
Thanks...

I have the same issue with Mirena. The fat is all around my belly....AARRGGGHHH!!! I was 123pds and had lost all of my baby fat...and within a year have gained 25pds. I look HORRIBLE. My doctor said it was because I ate too much but I don't and to add to it...I was on a 3 week fast (no meat, no fried foods) and still gained weight, so I tried a liquid fast and gained weight....I want to take it out...this is ridiculous...oh and like others I work out at least twice a week and eat much better!
I am so happy I came across all of you. Since the IUD I have gaines between 10-15 pounds and that was in a three week time. I have been working out 5 times a week and eating under 1200 calories a day all lean meats and veggies. I have not lost a pound. I look very blotted around my waist ( kind of like an inflated tire) I've been so frustrated. But now that I know the problem, thanks to you guys, I have made an appointment tomorrow to take It out. Does anyone know if you loose that weight immediately cuz my wedding is coming up in 3 week.
Wow seems like this is more of a pain in the ass than they said it would be.
Ive had it over a year. Ive had two kids back to back so i was happy to get a nice break. Im pretty overweight. im at 276lbs. My son killed me with a 40lb preg weight gain. after i had it put in i had a bad pain once a month on my lower right pelvic area. Which now today its every few days i get the pain. My periods come every 3-5 months. so when im suppose to get them monthly the pain replaces it.
Mirena can also cause Ovarian cysts, ive had an ultrasound to make sure i dont have it. Ive also had several yeast infections my first case of BV a bacterial infection. I have tried to lose weight, lost 6 lbs but my weight cant seen to go below 270.
Im having it removed Aug 18th, I have an appt with a weight doctor to get on pills before that. So i cant wait. Ill deal with condoms till i fugure solmething out.
Also I came to realize something about the Mirena that will get you all thinking.
I was told they prefere ppl in a steady relationshop or married with only one sex partner cause if you get a std it can travel up the Mirena string and into your uterus spreading the infection.
Well when you get yeast infections or bacterial infections it can do the same thing. So after a treatment for the infection later on your uterus can have a period or discharge and the bacterica/infection will start all over again.

I am going to get my Mirena removed in 4 days and I am soooooooo happy that I've made this decision! I had it for 8 months now and finally realized that it is the big problem and causes my weight gain. Somebody wrote here that all you have to do in order not to gain weight is stay away from pizza and fast food and excersize .. ok, let me tell you... it's BS. I've been on South Beach diet for over a year now. in the beggining i lost about 20 lb, kept it off withough any ANY problem.. nice and easy.. I play competitive vball 2 times a week, 3 times a week I do bootcamp training, and in between i do weights at home.. sounds like enough excersise? But my weight is going up!! and yes, it's all around the lower abdomen.. it's crazy! and it's very discouradging! So, I can't waint to get that evil thing removed and get my weight back to normal.. Will keep you posted

Before I had the Mirena IUD, I worked out roughly 3-5 times a week. I was already calorie counting, and maintaining a healthy diet. (I usually drink only water, and 100% juices...no carbonation or even caffeine). I had been doing this over a year, and was hovering around 133 lbs and size 9/10 pants
After I had the Mirena put in, I shot up to 145 lbs and 11/13 pants. So in return, I watched calories very closely, and began working out twice a day (I promise....I'm not just saying that to be a martyer), 4-5 times a week. (Sometimes 6) And I kept my good eating habits, including eating small meals frequently throughout the day to keep up the metabolism.
To top it off, I even tried out a metabolic enhancer at the same time because working out and diet simply weren't cutting it. Nothing....nothing at all!!! A few months later, I'm still the same weight, same size, and frankly getting burned out on so much diet and exercise.
I am posting this because I am seeing a lot of people saying "diet and exercise" will fix the issue. I think I took my situation a bit extreme, but I think it is safe to say that diet and exercise is not the solution.
But I would like to know if anyone WAS able to successfully able to lose weight with the Mirena, and if so, what is the regimen you took? I'm not scared of exercise or diet....so bring it on.

Hi,
I am scheduled for my 2nd Mirena in a month's time. When I had it 5 yrs ago, I had a full time job and never exercised. I am not sure how much I gained but I can say I always blamed my slow metabolism and unhealthy lifestyle for the muffin tops, not the Mirena. I have always been on the chubby side so my weight didn't really matter to me until I left my job last yr to be a SAHM. I dread being a SAHM, the psychological effect of having to look my best each time my husband comes home became the focus of my weight loss. That was my 4th yr on Mirena and I was (I think) 145 lbs, 5'2 and wore a size 8/10 jeans. I started on treadmill, elliptical, and off to running. Believe me, the weight drop wasn't that fast if you base it from the HOURS I spend working out however, I preferred to still eat the sinful stuff and burn them rather than deprive myself and binge later on. It has to be a compromise if you love food
A year later, I am down to sizde 0/2 and xxs. I went beyond my target jeans as well. My husband said to me that I never looked as good when we were dating and he is scared to have the Mirena removed as I might even look more lean and sexier (and he might get me preggo again!) I knew my husband thinks the Mirena is to blame for the excess weight but personally, I think it is my lifestyle back then. I was a career woman trying to be ahead of the rat race...there was a study that fat sticks more when women are stressed...so I try to not sweat on the small stuff now. I always tell myself, "Yeah I don't have a job, everything is tight---except for my jeans!
" I still have about 5 lbs to lose (I am now at 118-120) and a lot of toning to do but I am not rushing. My current running routine helped a lot and I am sticking to it 5K, 3x a week. It also helps to weigh yourself daily---yes daily, so you can observe the fluctuations in your weight. I will have my 2nd Mirena and I hope having it for another 5 yrs will be as smooth as the first one.
