I have been trying everything. I suffered an injury to both my hands (they were gouged by the sidewalk when my dog went for a squirrel. In the winter, my hands became their normal winter dry/cracking but they haven't recovered for months. I wore bandaids for months to keep moisture in. Finally, I've started on StemEnhance which encourages stem cell release from the bone marrow--this is what repairs your body. After only about 4 days on it, I'm noticing a difference. Not so red, flaky, or itchy. My skin would get flaky and shred on exposure to air but I made it through the night and the day without that happening. Very Happy
(If you need to find some, you can go to www.downs.stemtechbiz.com) Good luck!

I had a similar condition to what many of you have described, and I did something simple that has cured it that I want to share. Prescription creams from dermatologists (usually cortisone types) would make it go away, but then it would come back worse, so I stopped using them. I was able to trace the first occurence to a time when I washed my hands in a public restroom and the soap must have caused an allergic reaction with my wedding ring. It took me weeks of not wearing my wedding ring for it to go away. Then, months later, I forgot and again washed my hands with public, liquid soap. The dryness, itching, and flaking came back, but worse, and in an expanded area. This is when I went to a dermatologis and got a prescription cortisone cream, which made it worse, and last longer. Again, I couldn't wear my wedding ring for weeks, because of the swelling. A few visits to another dermatologist, and allergy tests brought no sign of allergies, but his cream made it worse, too. I was at my wit's end, as at this point about 1/3 of my hand skin would crack and bleed, itch and flake.

My osteopath suggested that I mix about a tablespoon of coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree oil, and use that. Both are easily available at a health food store. The logic is that both coconut oil and tea tree oil are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and more. Because this concoction is so smelly and oily, I put it on my hands, then covered them with cotton or latex gloves to do my work or sleep. I found that if I cut the fingertips off the gloves that I could go about my daytime tasks quite normally.

I was absolutely amazed to find that whatever had been causing was helped by this. My hand was noticeably better after the first night, and after a just a few days of wearing the cream at night and whenever I was home, with the gloves on, I was nearly healed.

It's now been at least a year since I did that, and my skin is giving me no problem at all.

I also want to add that Burt Bee's has a hand cream in a purple tube that had a good effect, too. If you want to try something over-the-counter first, you might try that. It is also smelly, so you'll still want to use the gloves. I would suggest using both, frankly, just because they are different and one may help the other.

Good luck!!

My hands once a year peel, untill the skin on the hands have all peeled off with only new skin, then the problem disappears.

This usually happens in the cold dry months, normally in July-August.

Really would like to know what could be the problem.

On my left hand, middle finger and also the pinky finger. It first starts out where the tip and left side of the middle finger feel numb. It will continue that way for a week or so. Then the skin starts getting very hard, like it is drying out and eventually, it sort of scabs although the scab is just that the skin in dying. I have always had this phobia about peeling skin, and therefore, at that point, I start peeling it. For the most part, the skin comes off relatively easy but because I cannot stand peeling skin I will unfortunately keep peeling until I bleed.

The same goes for my pinky finger. I was freaking out and never would have guessed that other individuals are experiencing the same thing.

I guess, I will first check with my regular doctor and maybe she will let me know what my next step will be.

It is very bothersome and it also make the nails on those fingers grow out very brittle and ugly. I hope that I will be able to get some good news. Confused

These can be symptoms of a staff infection, although usually staff infections cause a burning sensation.

Whoa! I think there are a lot of people talking about a lot of different ailments on this thread.
I have the numbness/tingling in fingertips and the dry, scaly, peeling skin between almost all of my fingers. The 'webs' of my fingers are all that are really affected which seems to be common amongst some people in the thread.
The best that I can figure out is that it's a fungal infection, similar to a yeast infection. Possibly a yeast infection.
I was on antibiotics for bronchitis and this popped up shortly afterward. Most people that I've spoken to have experienced it after a round of antibiotics. The problem is that it will go away or lay dormant but it's never really 'cured' until you can kill the fungus and that can take some serious work because it spreads so easily to other parts and can return.
There are a few other symptoms to look for: sores or patches in your mouth, swollen cuticles, possibly dry skin or a patch of red skin in the corner of your mouth and even your genitals can be affected.
Most definitely go to your physician and suggest the fungal/candidas angle. Again, you can use all the lotion and cream in the world but you're just treating the dry skin, not the cause.
I would also suggest that the tingling is a side effect of the dryness, peeling and redness. The nerves of your fingertips run through the 'webs' of your fingers. When this skin is irritated, dry and broken, it will affect the sensitivity of your fingers temporarily.
Raynaud's Phenomenon is another option to google where your fingers and hands are very sensitive and tend to go numb. It is a genetic disease but it does NOT signify a serious condition. It does come from poor circulation in your extremities and generally occurs in people who find their hands or toes get really cold even when it's not very cold outside.
Logic might suggest that the poorer your circulation is in your extremities/hands, the more susceptible you would be to infections of that area (sores, blisters, cracks from fungal infections).
I know it's not the easiest route but you MUST go see your physician and have him test for candidas infection or it will linger indefinitely and it can spread...to other parts of your body and to other people if they use the same towels.
And antifungal is the best way to treat this, keep the area clean but dry...lotions may soothe the soreness but they can make a fungal infection worse.
If you have red patches in your mouth, itching around your genitals or anus or sores/dry skin in the corner of your mouth, you are definitely dealing with a candidas fungal infection that will NOT go away without anti-fungals.
I am not a doctor, I just have experience dealing with fungal infections as the result of antibiotic treatments. Dibetes and any problem that causes your immune system to be weakened (mono, HIV) also exacerbate the problem though one should never assume to have these ailments simply based on a fungal infection.
Best of luck to everyone and look into anti-fungals. The OTC antifungals are NOT designed to treat candidas. One option you can try if you don't have insurance or a doctor is to google APPLE VINEGAR CIDER. There are lots of studies that suggest that apple vinegar cider is very effective against candidas and there are many websites that discuss the benefits of AVC against fungal infection of the skin, sinuses and genitals.
You CAN beat this, you just need the proper treatment. It's my experience that after you rid yourself of the cracking/drying 'superglue' feeling between the fingers that the numbness/tingling will CEASE. Irritated nerves can do strange thigns sometimes.
Best of luck to all...I know it's frustrating but it can be beaten with the proper treatment. Without proper treatment, it will come and go indefinitely.

I have had a problem with my right thumb feeling numbish, yet tingly, like it was asleep and is waking up. This also goes up my entire arm occasionally and even felt in my left hand and arm. One other thing that is weird is that my right thumb nail had a funky spot that I thought was overgrown cuticle or something so I picked it off... it turned out to go all the way down to the nail bed and nearly bled! Now the nail has grown in with a slight lump in the moon area. It also feels like something is squashing it or like it might explode. It doesn't have discoloration of any sort. I wonder if it's from a lack of oxygen to the thumb and if it's coming from my back where I might have pulled something or pinched a nerve. Unfortunately, I don't have insurance. I've tried sitting in a hot tub. I've tried icing it and sleeping with heating pad. I've taken anti-inflammatory meds. Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have good suggestions? I've tried prayer too Smile.
