Hi! I have herniated disc. I have terrible pain in my left leg. My doctor suggested me Epiderul Steroid Injection. Can you explain me this procedure? I don’t like needles. Please tell me is this procedure painful.

Hi! I had experience with Epidural Steroid Injection. I have such pain relief that I advice you don’t wait. Do it! In this approach, a steroid is injected directly around the dura, the sac around the nerve roots that contains cerebrospinal fluid. Prior to the injection, the skin is anesthetized by using a small needle to numb the area in the low back. Epidural injections help reduce inflammation. Injecting around the dura sac with steroid can markedly decrease inflammation associated with disc herniation or degenerative disc disease. Sedatives are rarely necessary, as the epidural steroid injection procedure is usually not uncomfortable. If a sedative is used, the patient will need to be monitored for a longer period following the injection.
