This is really shameful, I feel quite low having to post on an internet site for help, but this is all I have left - any help would be appreciated.
I'm 20 years old. I used to be confident, charismatic, girls liked me. Now I have a problem that is getting me down.
For about 3 years I've had dry flaky (relatively painless but certainly unattractive) skin on the top of my penis only when erect. I also have a tight band that makes my penis look like an hourglass after masturbation. I'm not sure if the two things are connected; I'm guessing so since the dry skin sort of starts from this band. When flacid, my penis isn't dry, although I find that rubbing the penis head allows rolls of soft smeggy skin to come off - regardless of whether I've just washed it or its the end of the day. The band is there flacid or erect, and usually breaks to form lots of little cuts when erect; slightly more painful.
I've read about Phimosis, that seems like a possibility, although I've never heard anything about dryness related to that, and also, the band doesn't stop me pulling my foreskin back - though doesn't make it easy.
I went to see a supposed specialist at an NHS hospital, a couple of times over the last year or so, and after giving me some creams (including steriod cream and antibiotics) she has said I "could try circumcission" to see if that gets rid of the dry skin.
Now, I'm not particularly fond on 'trying circumcission' if I know it won't cure this problem, wihch has now taken over my life, and destroyed my sex life completely (it looks horrible, I don't want anyone to see it). I like having a foreskin, its part of my identity (ok a small part, but its just who I am), and I really don't know how circumsized men go about masturbating since my foreskin plays a pretty crucial part as far as I can see (wasn't circumcision invented to prevent masturbation?). So I don't know what to do? It feels like I'm the only person who has this exact issue. Please help!

If you feel that not being circumcised is important to you, do not do it. I think it's an irreversible life decision and you should not do it if it's going to put you at risk of hurting your identity. I think that you might want to see a urologist who is male and see what he thinks about it instead. What do you think?

Yes agreed with health guy, go and find another urologist. This one sounds like she's poking around and doesn't really know whats going on. Is she straight out of uni or experienced?

I can agree with you that I've not really heard of dryness associated with phimosis, not that that means it doesn't occur though. The steroid cream is generally used to help with stretching the foreskin to combat phimosis. Has she told you to do any stretching exercises?

And never go for a circumcision on one doctor's say so. Its a rather drastic measure to cure something like this. Its like I've got a skin infection on my finger, I know, why not amputate my hand that'll cure it. Mad

On a side note, you was brave getting it out for a female doctor. Would never keep it down Wink
