I have diabetes mellitus. I have it for a year now and it is type 1. I have started taking insulin. Anyway, I will be going to some party next week and since I did not take any alcohol for more than a year now, I would like to know if alcohol increases symptoms of diabetes mellitus?

Diabetes mellitus is a severe condition. While treating it, regular taking of insulin is very important. This also goes for all the rules that apply for healthy way of living. This is all in order to prevent further destruction of beta cells of pancreas, which produce insulin. It is not recommendable for you to take alcohol because it can damage the pancreas and that is something you do not need (not to mention the fact it increases the glucose level in the blood).
