HI, my mother , 55 years, has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. We are so worried. She had goiter before, but regulated condition with medications, so with didn’t even think of something malignant this time. What are her chances for recovery?

Thyroid cancer is a disease in which malignant cells are forming cancer in the tissues of the thyroid gland, which is at the base of the throat. Thyroid cancer occurs more often in women, in Asian people, in people who had goiter (enlarged thyroid) or a family history of thyroid disease. The first sign can be lump or swelling in the front of the neck or in other parts of the neck. There are differrent types of thyroid cancers, which grow faster or slower and require different approach in treatment. Patient chances of recovery depends on the type of thyroid cancer, in which stage is it, had it spread to other organs and the patient’s age and overall health. Younger than 40 years have better chances that the cancer doesn’t spread beyond the thyroid.
