Lupus is autoimmune disease , where immune system starts to create antibodies against its own cells and tissues. It’s a chronic, inflammatory disease affecting skin, joints, kidneys and blood. Mainly, lupus is a mild disease affecting only some organs, but it can also be severe. These drugs are usually recommended for muscle and joint pain, and arthritis. In therapy are used corticosteroids (steroids), who have anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties. Chloroquine (Aralen) or hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil),are antimalarics , prescribed for skin and joint symptoms of lupus. It may take months before these drugs demonstrate a beneficial effect. Azathioprine (Imuran) and cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) are cytotoxic or immunosuppressive drugs, affecting overreactive immune system.
