I'm looking for some help with a problem that a family member of mine is experiencing. My sister has had periods that have been quite odd lately. She will have menses, but it doesn't seem to stop. She is constantly bleeding - sometimes for up to 2 weeks. The flow is similar to that of a regular period. I'm a nurse as is she and we've exhausted our options with physicians, specialists, etc. trying to find out what is going on. They can't find anything. They said that next step was to do an intrauterine ablation where they insert heated water into the uterus to basically cauterize the endometrium. Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before? She's gravida 3 and not sexually active at this time due to this problem. We're trying to avoid a hysterectomy. Thanks.

I as well, have the same thing. However mine last upto 4 weeks at a time (yes, a whole month Confused ) I talked to my dr when it started, I didn't know about it lasting for so long yet, as it had just begun and i was only on day 2, I went in because I had literally, been changing tampons (super, for that matter) every 30 minutes, and that is NOT normal. She said I just had "heavy periods" When i told her this has never happened before, she said come back in a week if it still persists. I came back every week for 4 weeks, each time still changing every 30 minutes. I couldn't even get sleep, i can't fall aslep within 30 minutes and SLEEP too! and if i waited just "10 more minutes" I'd be throwing my pants out. Finaly my dr performed some tests and said my only option was to have a hysteretomy, I'm only 19! I want children - I can't let that happen.. The only other o ption i had, was to come in 1-3 times a week (depending on the flow) when i was on my period to get a blood transfusion b/c i was losing a significant amount of blood each day, and by the 3rd day i was too weak to even get up out of bed. I'm not sure what they can do for her, but don't give up trying, keep trying to find an answer.

I tried an herb (saw palmetto) it's specified for an enlarged prostate, but found something on-line about using it for women. Took one tablet a day for about a week maybe longer and everything went back to normal.....Smile
