I was not even aware that younger people could suffer from a stroke so thank you for posting this! I really appreciate it. What inspired you to write this? Do you know anyone who is younger who has had one? The only stroke victims I happen to know were at least older than 60 although I guess according to this article it can happen to you at any time. Thanks again!

bluedog- I was told by my neurologist that often times babies can suffer a stroke while going through the birthing process.

After a MRI of my brain I was told that I have had a stroke. Somehow, don't ask me how, they could tell it was an old stroke one.

Of course it was not physically debilitating or I would have known when I had it. I do however remember having a numb, heavy arm, severe headache and speach problems one day, several years ago, while I was at work. I never even thought about it being a stroke because I have always suffered from migraines and thought this was just another.
I sat at my desk for awhile, started feeling better then when on with my daily work.
My point...that episode happened in my early 40's so I wanted to tell you that people can have a stroke before the age of 60. Maybe not as severe but it can happen and according to my neurologist it can happen as young as birth.
Hope this helps.

Wow, KariB, that's really scary! THanks for letting me know about it. Did your doctor say that there was anything that you're supposed to do about it? Did you learn about anything that you should do to prevent it from happening in the future? Now I'm a little worried...

I thought I had a stroke one time when I was like 20.

I was really dizzy, felt like my equilibrium was off. My speech got really slurred and my vision was blurry. My body felt really... heavy. So to speak. I also felt sorta numb in my face. It could have been a panic attack but this one seemed different.

I had a stroke May this year. I am 23 now was 22 when it happened. I was in hospital for 2 weeks and had to have all sorts of tests done to find out what was wrong. they discovered it was a disected artery. this i think means that a layer of an artery has came away and herefore caused a bleed in my brain. it is now august and i am nearly back to my normal self although i have no feeling in my right side, the doctor said this will come back in time. the symptoms i had were tingling in my right side, which later turned to numbness. weakness in my left side, double vision and i wasnt able to swallow. the reason i had symotoms in both sides was because the stroke happened in the brain stem. i was at the hairdressers the day before this happened and was told this could have been the cause.

I had a stroke, just 7 months ago...im just 15..well now its 16...
i never heard the word, "stroke" and when i was in the school, i had a headache, and i thought "im sure eveyone gets headaches when they have to do courseworks/revisions" so, i ignored it..slowly, severe headache, in the school computer, couldn't even find the cursor, Slept in the lesson, managed to live all the day for 3 days (stupid me!!), the third day, after i went home, I tried to do my business coursework but i couldnt find my words in my head, thought "its probably because im tired" so i slept even though its the last day to due in next day...
next morning, it was painfull, and i hadnt done the coursework, i thought "ill skip this day", so i slept again, but by parents said why arent you going to the school...and i answered i have a headache (finally...i never said anything at all)...went to GP/doctors, couldnt find my words, slurred...they asked what is your date of birth, ". . . . ." didnt even know my DOB...then they were concered, i still didnt know what that was...i was puzzled...I laid, slept for an hour, and suddenly the right side body, was fully numb, then i cried(yes, sometimes, men do cry),...then to the hospital, MRI, etc etc...
i was in the hospital and i didnt know what stroke is, i thought, "hm..im sure it will recover by the week and it will have half term, and i can do the coursework by then ^_^"... and i did recovered, and they were saying im recovering quickly...but it was very slow for me...i was still limping, i coulndn't talk, when i smile, my right side face was twitching,....
discharged after 11 days, i can walk without wheelchair/crutch...slowly my speech was getting better, but very slowly...and im still recovering. sometimes, its annoying when i cant explain things, but..."look in the brighter side"....
ps. i think theres lots of grammar errors...
