Who'da thunk it?! I had no idea what the tinny taste in mouth after eating could be, like everyone else I had feared some insidious illness. For the informal survey, I am blood type O+ although that didn't prove exclusive, and the 'taste' came 2 days after snacking on Kirkland brand pine nuts from Costco while making 3 batches of pesto. My room mate detected an aftertaste in my bag of pine nuts that was not in hers, and my pesto had taken on that same taste. As for what helped, the aftertaste was much less to none eating scrambled eggs topped with muenster cheese and drinking water. The post that mentioned rinsing your mouth out with salt water made me start looking around for something salty, which I enjoyed eating about 1/2 the bag, savoring the salty-ness and woke up this morning without the bad taste! However a hint of it came back while eating Chinese at lunchtime and a cold coffee later this afternoon. I only had the one day of real bad taste. Hope it helps!

I think that's a pretty good method! I think I'll try that out if I have a bad taste in my mouth. Thanks for your insight okay Smile

Thank Goodness I googled this subject! For the last couple of days I've had this discusting almost "soapy" taste in my mouth. I bought a ready prepared pasta salad with spinage & pine nuts friday lunch and the strange taste started sunday morning! Must be the pine nuts! I too am blood type O - how strange! Although on a more possitive note I think I've discovered my new weight loss secret!

I've had the same symptoms for 24 hours and was getting a little concerned. Decided to google "bitter taste in mouth" and was lucky enough to come upon this forum. I have always enjoyed pesto/pinenuts, and had a good handful two days ago. Within 24 hours the symtoms started and have not abated. I'm glad to know that they are not permanent and not serious. By the way, I've never heard of this before, and I'm a physician.

I'm on the same boat, folks. Bought some pine nuts by weight from a fresh food market at Flemmington Markets in Sydney. The guy was selling to varieties. One type was larger paler looking nuts. The other was smaller and a bit grey looking in color. After tasting both, I bought the smaller looking variety on Saturday and has a few handfuls. The bad taste started on Sunday night and is still with me today Tuesday. I ate my last handful just before reading this post. Sad I'm now dreading the next 2 weeks... Off to buy some ginger, me thinks...

Wow! I'm so glad I found this conversation! I have been bothered by this bitter taste for over a month this time! I thought maybe it was from my allergy shots which are at full strength at this point. Or a high blood pressure med that my Dr. gave me to quell hot flashes. (It works a little...) But now that I read this, I think you all are right. I started eating pine nuts last summer ('0Cool that I bought at the grocery every once in a while. This bad taste has come & gone for about a year now. Recently, I found a big bag of pine nuts at BJ's (like Costco or Sam's) and it was much cheaper. They all tasted great and I just ate the last of them this past week end.

I can't stand this taste! It makes food taste different. Red wine tastes so bitter and Diet Coke tastes sickeningly sweet. I'm eating salty things to try to get rid of it and it's just putting weight on me. But if you are right, I'll give them up gladly! They're really fattening too!

I'm trying this ginger thing after work!! It's amazing how this affects your life! Thanks everyone and pray...

Anne

I actually think that there is a gum out there that has ginger in it that should really help you if you are caught without being able to get some. What do you think? Anyone found this?

I was grateful to find this site as I also googled 'bitter taste in mouth after eating' and I have had this since I ate pine nuts four days ago. My question is why didn't I ever experience this any of the other times I ate pine nuts?

I had pine nuts, in sushi, before without any problems. Someone complained about pine nuts in sushi volcano and they stopped using them. So I went to supermarket and bought them to add to sushi later. Ate a little from the jar and couple of days later got that terrible bitter taste after eating food. Peace of white bread is the worst. I scheduled 2 doctors appointments for the next week before finding this thread. Can't believe this![/quote]

Okay, it's been about a month since I ate any pine nuts. The day I read these posts, I got candied ginger from a health food store and chewed a couple of them up and swallowed them. The taste started going away right then and in about 3 days was totally gone and hasn't come back! Yippie! I'm so glad! It was awful! I loved the pine nuts but I won't be eating them again! Thanks to everyone posting - it worked!!
