Bitter taste in mouth after eating - part 2

Geez, I'm so glad I'm not alone... This forum wasn't until page THREE of my google search, so I spent the first two pages of results panicking that I may be suffering from anything from sodium flouride poisoning (even though flouride is BANNED from my home!), to mercury poisoning, to diabetes!!! Then I got here, called my naturopathic doctor mom-in-law who's had a really tasty nut mix that I've snacked on when at her house for DAYS! "Are there pine nuts in that mix?" "Yes" "That's our bitter taste culprit!" "Really?!" And we are going to muscle test to be sure tomorrow!
I don't think blood type's relevant... I'm A+
Here's hoping it doesn't hang around long! I was on the verge of throwing out EVERYTHING in my fridge. Thought for SURE I was poisoning my husband and little one!

Yet another bitter pine-nut eater. I too have the bitter taste after eating just about anything, although sweet things seem to not be as bad, and chewing gum seems to help get the bad taste out of my mouth until I eat real food again.

I too ate pine nuts a couple of days before the bitter taste hit. I have been eating pine nuts for years and never had a problem and am A+ blood type. I don't know for sure if it is the pine nuts. That could be coincidental, I guess.

This was a new package of nuts that I had taken out of the freezer where I had them stored for many months. Originally purchased them from Trader Joes, but have had good success with TJ pine nuts in the past.

Just wondering if they are the culprit...?

Here's another remedy that works to get rid of the bitter taste. And a little more info about nuts.

We were told that pine nuts should taste like nuts. If nuts taste sweet, they are rancid. A Clinical Dietitian gave this advise:
put one tablespoon of ginger in 4 ounces of water then drink and repeat every 15 minutes 3 times.

The Paratid tablets should also work but I'm not sure which is faster. Most folks don't have Paratid on hand but do have ginger. We also noticed that fresh ginger was much stronger than the bottle we'd had for over a year.

It's taken about a day after taking the ginger but the taste has greatly diminished. This remedy is also good for food poisoning. You'll find out after about the 3rd swallow that this isn't an easy cure Shocked , but if you've had this aftertaste for almost a week, you'd lick your butt if it would get rid of it.

So glad and relieved to have found this forum. Made and ate pesto w/ pine nuts last Wednesday evening - now on day 4 of bitter taste in mouth, worse when eating bread and sugar. Pine nuts were from Fresh Direct, and I noticed that they were smaller than what I've used before (I've made pesto many times and never had this reaction) so they must be the Chinese variety. Although it seems like this may be irrelevant since I've seen several posts from various blood types, I am O negative.

Wishing everyone a speedy "recovery" -- I really hope our reactions don't represent a serious health risk.

I have always eaten pine nuts with my desert- However took a handful the other night and - you have guessed it bitter taste in mouth after eating or drinking anything.
Found washing mouth out with salt water after food takes the bitterness away-

So relieved to find this information - I'd never heard of pine nuts having this effect and was sure I'd somehow encountered some poisonous substance doing yardwork or housework. I made a salad with lots of pine nuts and ate it over the course of two days followed by a hideous bitter taste anytime I try to eat or drink anything. What's puzzling is that no one else in the family has developed this - ???? I ate a handful of them prior to including them in the salad / mixing with vinegar and oil - could that be why? . . or just individual differences?
I am blood type A+ as well.

I recently purchased Fisher Pine Nuts from Walmart and had a bunch with my green pepper sandwich yesterday. The sandwich tasted funny and I threw it out and made a new one with red pepper. Then for dinner, we fixed spaghetti and almost everything tasted bitter. The wine, the bread, maybe the spaghetti a little. Then today, my eggs were tastelss and I could detect a little of the bitter taste. Lunch was the same. Of course I googled this issue and found out it could be nuts from China which Fishers nuts are from and it could be a rancid issue from poor storage. It's hard to know what is the truth but in any case I have contacted the company who said this was the first instance anyone reported it. I also plan to return these nuts to Walmart and let them know what I experienced. I would suggest next time you buy any kind of nuts, check the package and don't buy them if they come from China.

This is definitely not genetic / blood group related. I love pine nuts and I eat them all the time, never had any reaction to them whatsoever. I've been having this bitter taste in my mouth for days now and was on the brink of desperation, even thought it might have been the rimming I tried couple of days ago, so happy now to discover it was the nuts!

Sure enough the reason is the pine nuts. I ate a huge risotto with pine nuts last Friday and the bitterness came in breakfast on Sunday. It is two days now and it has not diminished at all. It is after meals while I am digesting. But I am also a frequent eater of pine nuts and never had this reaction so my best guess is that one day you develop some sort of allergy/reaction. It happened to me before with shrimp. I ate them all the time no problem and one day out of the blue I reacted badly. Now I always do get an allergy with shrimp unless I take something before eating them like Claritin or Benadryl. I also don't know where these came from but I can go check at the restaurant. Important correlation might be that I take vitamin C almost every day.
