Beta Blocker alternative

Can you please tell is verapamil good alternative to beta blockers? My father suffers from coronary artery disease and he is also diabetic. He was on beta blocker, but from recently his doc changed therapy to verapamil.

Some reports suggest that verapamil is an effective alternative to beta-blockers as antihypertensive therapy for diabetic patients with coronary artery disease. I am coronary artery disease suffere for years and also on verapamil therapy now and I am satisfied how it works.
