Hello Folks,
Benadryl or it's generic "diphenhydramine" will indeed help with sleep deprivation. I have been taking anywhere from 100-200mg over the past few years, without negative side effects. As a money saving tip, NEVER purchase BENADRYL. Diphenhydramine (25mg) works just as well, and will cost you $4.99 (USD) per 100 tabs (brand name BENADRYL in some instances will be double the cost). Also, some of the leading OTC sleep meds are just diphenhydramine "dressed up in a colorful and consumer friendly box." Do your homework in the sleep aid aisle and check the active ingredients before making your purchase.
I personally would NEVER take Tylenol PM (combination of 500mg Acetaminophen and 25mg Diphenhydramine) just to sleep well. Taking 8 Tylenol PM caplets - just to get the 200 mg of diphenhydramine for sleep - means you would be
ingesting 4000MG. OF TYLENOL!Hepatatoxicity (liver failure) is common at high dose Acetaminophen ingestion, and Tylenol / Acetaminophen overdose is responsible for more ER visits than any other medicine on the market.
