I have the same problem, back pain after drinking. I have suffered from ddd, or degenerative disc disease, or athritis in my low back for years, as documented by MRI. The reason it is worse after drinking alcohol is simple, dehydration. There is a 24 hour cycle that your discs in your back go through. At night they "rehydrate", or absorb fluids, and all day long, while under compression, these discs tend to compress and dehydrate. Some docs refer to this as the "tide in tide out effect". The trick to treating chronic back pain is to increase the "tide in effect", and minimize the "tide out effect". Drinking alcohol only serves to dehydrate your body, hence the hangover. Other things that cause this are salt, coffee, caffeine, sodas that contain either. I use an inversion table to help "decompress" after a long day on my feet. Still an alcoholic though. I guess sooner or later the pain will get so bad that it just won't be worth it to drink. Good luck to all, Steve
