Canadians got worried when the survey showed that nearly 65% of children from grade 7 to 10 tan themselves by exposing to dangerous ultra violet rays using artificial tanning equipments.

Canadian Cancer Society decided to support to the WHO recommendation that children under the age of 18 be prevented from tanning using artificial methods due to health risks. Their campaign is planned to coincide with the second annual Cancer Prevention Week.

So many young people expose themselves to artificial sun rays, usually tanning beds. They believe that just because the tanning is controlled that it is safe. They don’t seem to realize that these are the same type rays as the sun.

Health experts warn that sunburns developed under the age of 18 gives rise to the risks of cancer at a later stage in life. Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in Canada. This is why there is a great urgency to regulate the tanning industry and ban artificial tanning for people under the age of 18.

Fabutan, the largest chain of sun tanning salon in Canada, has decided to shut down the branch that allows any kids less than 16 to use the facility.
