Hi. I`m 39 years old and I suffer from depression. I use antidepressants to treat my condition (Elavil and Aventyl). These meds are quite effective but I have started to gain some weight and wonder if that is some sort of a side effect. Are anti depressants causing weight gain?

Hi. I take Aventyl too. Before Aventyl I have tried many different meds to find out which one works the best for me. Tricyclic meds, such as Elavil, Aventyl, Tofranil, Norpramin and many others, may cause many different side effects. Most common side effects of anti depressants are dizziness, dry mouth, vomiting, hair loss, blurred vision, nausea, anxiety, rashes, headache, fatigue, and, most important, appetite changes and weight gain or loss.
