You need to find a way to relax and not think about the diabetes history in your family. I know that just knowing you are at risk might be putting too much pressure on you but you do know that diabetes type 2 can be prevented or postponed by balanced diet and exercise and keeping your weight normal. It is very good that you took up walking, it may help you relax and walking is also as good as exercise.
You should be worried about your risk but not to the point where you would
drive yourself mad. By knowing you are at risk, you have the advantage to take things under control and start looking after yourself in ways I already explained (diet, exercise, weight, no stress). You should also have regular follow-ups to check all the necessary measurements and this is the best thing you can do. Worrying could and will only aggravate the condition if you have it.
Who knows, maybe you take after your mother’s side.
