My husband suffers from high cholesterol. He is on drugs for year. I didn’t want to change his eating habits; however, lately he is willing too. He said he tired of meds. I would like to know what the alternatives to drug therapy for high cholesterol are.

Dietary supplements are the mainstays of alternative treatment for high cholesterol, but also a variety of root and plant products are gaining attention in the medical community as potentially effective and beneficial treatments for this condition. Plants such as: Psyllium, Red yeast, Sterol or stanol esters.

One major way is to consume a diet that’s high in fiber. This means increasing the amount of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains and soluble fiber is great choice; oat bran is a great example of it. Pectin is also effective, as is ground flaxseeds. Recommend foods are oats, brown rice, beans, and fruits, which are all good sources, by increasing your consumption of deeply colored fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of developing heart disease as molecules in cholesterol are highly vulnerable to damage by free radicals. Essential fatty acids (EFA)actually have a heart-protecting effect, so be sure to incorporate cold-water fish like salmon or mackerel .Flaxseeds are another good source of EFAs. Olive oil increase levels of HDL.Garlic and onions help lower LDL cholesterol while raising HDL.Add spices to your meals, such as cayenne, basil, rosemary, and oregano, which are all rich in antioxidants to prevent cholesterol oxidation.

We represent "Unauthorized Ad", an on-line company supplying customized vitamin supplements to the USA , we hope this information may be of interest to you.

Although it is by no means the only major risk factor, elevated serum (blood) cholesterol is clearly associated with a high risk of heart disease. Most doctors suggest cholesterol levels should stay under 200 mg/dl. As levels fall below 200, the risk of heart disease continues to decline. Many doctors consider cholesterol levels of no more than 180 to be optimal. A low cholesterol level, however, is not a guarantee of good heart health, as some people with low levels do suffer heart attacks.

The approach of optimum cardiovascular health is an added focus on the correction of good and bad cholesterol levels. Policosanol has been shown to reduce LDLs (bad cholesterol) and raise HDLs (good cholesterol). Red Yeast Rice, Guggul, Garlic, Pantothenic Acid, and Soy Isoflavones all help to lower total cholesterol and raise HDLs (good cholesterol). CoQ10, Ester C and Vitamin E are a group of powerful antioxidants that prevent dangerous oxidation of cholesterol and also lower LDLs (bad cholesterol).

Dr. Balch works with "Unauthorized Ad" to provide custom-made natural remedies for anyone who wants an all-in-one daily supplement that addresses all their health concerns, as well as providing the vitamins and minerals needed for optimum health and wellness.
