tobacco, alcohol, caffeine. Only, strictly necessary drugs should be used in pregnancy. There is increased chance for birth defects. Drugs can act directly on the fetus, damaging it, leading to abnormal development or death. Some drugs lead to changed function of the
placenta, and reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients. Contractions of uterus can lead to injuries and to preterm labor and delivery.
